Albert Schweitzer in 1906: "To those who obey Him, whether they be wise of simple, He will reveal Himself in the toils, the conflicts, the sufferings which they will pass through in His fellowship, and, as an ineffable mystery , they shall learn in their own experience Who He is." - Doug Carpenter
I very much agree with your focus on Jesus and on Paul's question to Jesus "Who are you?" And, with your statement about the creeds and doctrines not being adequate to understanding who Jesus is. But, as a progressive Christian affiliated with the Episcopal Church, I am increasingly frustrated by and dissatisfied with our focus on ancient creeds and doctrine, most of which to believe in requires leaving a scientific understanding of reality behind.
Thank you once again for "soul speaking" rather than "mind muddling," which I tend to do at times. Jesus is indeed here in these troubled times, speaking to our souls about what we can learn and do as individuals and communities here and now.
N T Wright’s book about Paul “Paul a Biography” gives us the story about his mind, motivation, and works. His question to the voice he heard continues to resonate today; one that I find myself asking and finding answers to each day.
You’ve drawn me in, Diana. Not only have I pretty much dropped church, I’ve neglected maybe even forgotten Jesus. Looking forward to a freed up, freshened up picture of him.
I absolutely adore this title! This is the book I’ve always wanted to write - but sadly lack the skill! Instead I podcast about other people’s beautiful books, and thereby promote authors with fresh vision around faith. Can’t wait to read your book and reflect about it on the podcast (giftgirls.blog) or FB - Gift Girls Faith
Your work is SO important. As a former chef (now pastor), I have come to "trust your palette" - as we say in apprenticeship. Thank you! We all thank you. Your voice is needed.
