Who have I betrayed?

I feel like a new set of lyrics could be added to the song Both Sides Now. I feel like I have not only looked at both sides of betrayal, but lived both sides. Father forgive me/us all. Powerful reminder this week! Thank you.

And Miranda? OH, YEAH! I want to be able to live with myself, too. And be able to smile. Imagine her going to Emily. Step 9.

Regarding the scene from "the devil wears Prada"

1. we are all vulnerable to perfidy

2.Miranda should not have tossed an electronic device into a public fountain

I have found that the deepest place of humility is to realize the potential of betrayal as an actual experience. We all have been betrayed and we all betray others. It is spiritual pride to think we are above the many ways we fall short of our original design. The lifelong journey is to bring our failings and lay them at the foot of the cross asking for mercy to be purified allowing us to grow ever more into the true nature of love incarnate in beings.

I have always wondered about this scene at the Last Supper. John and Simon Peter ask Jesus who will betray Him. Jesus replies the next who I give the dipped piece of bread. He dips the bread and hands it to Judas. And the disciples think Judas is going to do an errand. What??? It boggles the mind.

this is puzzling, but maybe the disciples just can't believe that Judas could do this They have heard Jesus instruct them many times before and yet did not believe or understand him. Even now, they don't comprehend the death awaiting Jesus on the next day. They are worried, anxious, confused, and scared. Then Jesus breaks the loaf and gives it to EACH ONE of them. Could it be I master?

One of the things I love about these types of betrayal stories, as Hollywood generally does them, is how forgiveness is realized by the new life/redeemed life/resurrected life that is found by the betrayed, and sometimes by the one who has betrayed. “Andy” experiences this from both sides. To borrow from Tony Campolo: “It’s Thursday-Friday, but Sunday’s coming!”

I have not watched the movie, but the scenes with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway you shared capture the gist — and Anne’s decision to toss her cell phone into the pool is powerful. Thank you for the poem as well. I have just subscribed to The Cottage. Holy Week was the perfect time to do so.

I too recognize ways I betray my best self. And I recognize ways I betray others in not recognizing the Christ within. And of course, there are the more blatant ways I can and true turn my back on the truth about someone.

Thank you for these reflections today.

Yes each day I feel I have betrayed myself and others. By not caring for myself or by not relating to others with love/compassion,or forgiveness or even turning my back on serving others. However Jesus sacrifice gives me courage to face the possibilities to be more awake to the Grace of God thus motivating me carry on in love.

Why did Judas hang himself? This question was answered by me years ago by an article Ii read in Christian Century. A different view of Judas. Judas told the powers about Jesus, because he wanted and felt that God would Jesus from the death right then showing those condemning him that he was truly the Messiah. Judas was so depressed that the Jewish leaders brptrayed him, Judas hung hisself. Judas’s story was written by the disciples to,fulfill the Old Testament stories.

. . . and from the cross, we are forgiven, even the betrayal of not needing, wanting God, not because we deserve it but because God desires to love us with mercy, and wishes, lures us to show mercy . . .
