Thank you for sharing your grief helping us to go deeper in following the Spirit. May we find the words and prayful acts that will build up the Peaceable Kingdom.
So beautifully written. Thank you for such rich insight and honesty about the uneven history of this country. How I hope and pray that we will consecrate once again this sacred space of our democracy by working towards all that is decent, kind, and compassionate.
This is a beautiful article that will help all of us no matter our political thinking and beliefs. It was awful to see what was happening and easy to let our emotions take over. Now is the task of finding out who was really in our Capital building. We have seen so many rumors flying around, but we don’t want to see innocent people labeled outside of the building and if they are labeled we don’t want to see them affected as people are calling for labeling them just because they were there. Now is the time for cooler heads to prevail, making sure we are doing the right thing for the future and making sure this can never happen again. We are all Americans and I feel blessed to have seen this article. Well written. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this very moving piece following a shattering week. From this schism we shall rise from the ashes of anger and despair, with God's help and Jesus' guidance. There is much to repair and learn, even from children and grandchildren from a different generation, joining them with hope of rebuilding our planet and country. It has been so worth the time to reread your earlier book GROUNDED, encouraging faith in what we can change during this seismic shift in our culture, country, and world to move from grief to going forward from this wake-up call...
Deep sigh. Since all the comments are so strongly positive, I must be out of my mind to think otherwise, never mind say anything on a public forum. I come from a tradition where stuff is not sacred, so I don't relate to this so much However, I don't see how this has anything to do with "love your enemies", or peacebuilding, or collaboration. I absolutely don't think storming the Capital as a good thing but ... I keep wondering how we're going to come together, to be less tribal, less polarized, less "we're right, they're wrong, we're smart, they're stupid".
Thank you for thinking this through so carefully and articulating it so clearly. It is a gift to all of us. Can you direct me to more of your writing on the issue of politics vs religion? I’m finding that divide to be a somewhat hypocritical trope in the current mess - of COURSE religion speaks to the moral system of the people, and of COURSE people are not exempt from that critique just because they happen to be politicians or elected officials - rather the opposite. Working through the logic.
Thank you. As a pastor, I've been dealing with conversations about "the sacred" for decades; both in terms of what we value in our faith stream, and in terms of how the priorities we declare to be sacred have the potential to divide as well as unite. As a student of change process, I would also note how the "sacred" can hinder needed change, or lead us to meaningful change.
Having noted all of that, I thank you, Diana, for articulating the significant and poignant dynamics at work in these recent horrific events. Very helpful and well-spoken.

Thank you! Many of the thoughts that I have had this past week and have not been able to put them in words.

All I can say is, Thank you for taking the time it took to write this article. It means so much!

Division may not end in our lifetime but we can make it happen sooner by one good deed or positive action.Paying it forward works.!

What is there left to say to such a profound column besides, "Amen! Amen! Amen!"
Oh, Diana, what a powerful message. I Believe! I Believe!
