Diana, you must read the bottom of page 227 and the top of page 228 in Michael Curry's book "Love is the Way."!!! Curry writes, "I once got an email from a man who was angry because he thought that, shortly after the November 2016 election, his church had deliberately picked Sunday readings to criticize our new president...." The appointed Gospel from the lectionary that day was The Sermon on the Mount. In the parish were I was that day one man stormed noisily out of the church when the Beatitudes were read, thinking it was a political criticism of Trump. - Doug Carpenter,Birmingham

Thank you. Just thank you. For showing up, for being brave with your clergy sisters. This passage has been my rock as well and my north star when everything else seems inadequate, or compromised, or ineffective, or in some cases just plain evil. These words give me the focus to collect coats for refugees and asylees and to nudge/insist/cajole my local congregation to help those same families - many of whom are essential workers (at way less than $15/hour) - keep their rents paid and their utilities on. May these word be a clearer, truer and brighter light in the days ahead....

For me the Beatitudes are a beautific vision from the very heart of God. As we “be” the same attitudes,

blessing pours through us and heaven is realized on earth. Truly nothing can separate us from the love of God, especially not Trump!

I was so moved by your column today. As a Jew, I have been struggling with how any religious community can support Trump and his dangerous regime of hate.

It makes me terribly sad to watch religious people make excuses for him and vote based on one position, whether it be abortion or Israel, and ignore the blatant immortality of this man.

Although I am a laywoman living in Canada, I am following your struggles south of the border. I pray there will be a merciful outcome to the election.

I was in total existential despair after the 2016 election. I felt that I didn’t want to live in the world I was seeing. In spite of being an introvert, and hating crowds, I took the train (standing room only) to downtown LA for the 2017 Women’s March. I was blown away by the beautiful feminine spirit pervading the space. Everyone was positive, helpful, and loving. The Sikh’s were serving warm soup. Women were reaching out to others. The signs ranged from angry to inspiring to hysterical. It was just amazing and healing. I didn’t see any Beatitude signs in my area of the group, but they were being lived. The only negative thing in the whole March was a man with a bullhorn telling us we were all going to hell. I’m an Episcopal priest, and I’d rather go to “hell” with these women than “heaven” with that man.
