I am getting caught up before Christmas. Thank you for sharing Springsteen's rendition of This Little Light of Mine! It was perfect encouragement for me this afternoon.

Another fine choice for word of the week. "All of us are in the gutter. Some of us are looking at the stars." (Oscar Wilde) No matter how low we might fall, we can always look for the light, appreciating the darkness that makes light possible.

Your words were so perfect and fitting for today. It seems like we should always be seeking that light, wherever it takes us. No matter where it takes us. Holding the Light held me captive, read it several times, then aloud. Ending with Bruce was just the candle on the cake. Thank you once again Diana.

(and an extra thanks for giving me a good question to send to Tripp)

This was just a total delight to read. My first 'aha!' moment about Light in a long time. Thanks so much.

Ah, Diana...that you should touch so eloquently on the metaphorical connection between Light and Love. I felt like I was in a science class, taught by an esteemed religious scholar who, drawing back a curtain that looked to be a chalkboard covered with equations, invites us to step through into another dimension of understanding. Here's a musical contribution to your most welcome Advent insights with a first line that says: Love arrives at the speed of light; you don't need to be a scientist to know that's right' and the link is here: https://vimeo.com/895647765/9b93e0cfbe?share=copy

This is wonderful! As an erstwhile astrophysicist anything to do with light fascinates me; thank you for sharing this powerful imagery, Diana.

Lovely post...I re-read Madeleine L'Engle's YA novel A Ring of Endless Light a couple of years ago. She has a way of getting to the heart of faith and the Love that binds all creation.

I’m not a Christmas person, but this piece makes me want to be a Christmas person. Beautifully written as always. Thank you for sharing.

I even prowl eBay for bargain prices on my favorite shoes which can be very expensive. Once I know my size in a certain brand, I can buy with confidence that a shoe will fit.

So wonderful to know that God contains "all the wavelengths of eternity". All the light we cannot see.

WOW....All he knew is that the light was flickering, something was coming into view that had been part of the spectrum still hidden from view.

And. 2000+years later, it's still coming into view.

What an amazing and heartening (and clarifying for me, anyway) statement.

Great message, so beautiful to read. I pray for all those who have not found the Good News, that they may discover it today and ultimately accept Jesus as their Lord and personal Savior. Amen.

Yes to wilderness last wk. You led me to Bene' Brown's bk, Braving the Wilderness. It showed up next to my library hold. You're a light.

Powerful and helpful. It is good to be a spark of light and have some idea how our spark may affect the world by becoming part of a wave! My imagination is a little more active this morning. The Joy Sunday.!!! message to all.

What powerful images: light as a spectrum and light as wave and particle and neither. Thank you for the theological musings from that image. I wasn't ready for your reflection to end. I wanted more. There are so many insights that bombard my mind as I consider those images. Light as a spectrum give scientific evidence to the belief that God is always present and that we only see a small part of the whole. And then there is John's unconscious teaching that he lights the way for a "particle-ular" aspect of light revealed in Jesus, and that he illuminates the truth that the waves of that light give sacred radiance of the entire cosmos. Wow! That will not only preach, it will meditate. And baptism as a creation of waves that reveal the online-search-for-the-right-light complexity of light that will enlarge our field of vision to glimpse larger parts of the spectrum. Thank you, Diana, for enlarging my field of vision for Christmas and for life.
