I had a similiar experience with the birth of my daughter--day long labor and then bliss. She was so perfect. But I can't help think about the woman who doesnit want to be pregnant and given our present new laws is forced to hav a baby that she doesn't want. I think it must be terrible for both mother and child. I would have better respected what you wrote if you made it clear that this was only your experience.

These are a couple of pages from a 300 page memoir. Of course it is personal experience and not universal injunction.

Too overwhelmed to write much more than thank you for this beautiful reflection. A former priest used to say it was her least favorite gospel to preach because of how it has been misused over the years.... This was so lovely a description of water and spirit - holy temple - the birthing room. Even now - at 73 - I remember the birth of my only child with tenderness and clarity. Thank you.

Teresa I feel also one can have BORN AGAIN experiences through out life.

Question What do all of you feel about “ A fetus is a group of organs until you hear it take it first breath.” Are we not fully human until we take in a breath.

I loved that you shared Khalil Gibran and Sobonfu Some's words. I feel that each morning I wake up, I am born again or at least the opportunity to.

This rings so true to me , living in today's world of upheaval --or rebirth- being born again . In middle GA we live on ground which was several thousand years ago the shore of the ocean instead of one hundred miles South! Sea Fossils can still be discovered here. We are still learning from the native ancestors of this land--before Spanish and English along the coast. John 3:7 speaks to me that this is important for what we are living through in the early 2000's "Jesus birthed also ever - birthing presence calling new life from the Womb of God into the world not once but many times!" Thanks Be to God.!! Thanks Diana!

I know this is the verse that Christians use for the born again part where you ask for forgiveness and then start your journey. But I see it as the roadmap to the relationship we are to have with our Creator. Being born from above means to me that I have opened my heart to my Creator and want a relationship with him. No better way than to open my eyes to all the ways the Creator loves me by preparing a world that provides for all my needs. Such love that went into this creation is all around us. That opens up a relationship with God. It is my foundation and anchor. Every day I walk outside and experience God's wonders and see the love for me. The water to me is that of all earthly forces, water is the one that is multi-dimensional; humans need water for life, water cleanses, water changes topography, water gives pleasure. In the same way, this shows us the omnipotence of our God. For the childbearing part - we are created and born surrounded in water.

Hallelujah I couldn't agree more! But I would just add one more to it, "Born again . . . and again . . . and again", after much prayer and fasting some 20 years later we experienced this holy experience, when our daughter called and told us that she too had been 'Born again'!

Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of Hosts: the Whole Earth is Full of His Glory! (Isaiah 6:3)

Thank You for this wonderful post!

Thought I'd share this. Yesterday wife and I celebrated two March grand daughters birthdays and the below poem was part of their birthday cards:

We celebrate birthdays

They all began with the first one

Today we remember your first one…

Like all on earth

We were once held in a warm place

Our mom, womb-man, woman

Our original freedom,

Without judgement, comparing, anxious

There was our love, peace, just joy-filled being

Then one day we are set free

Free to roam in a new world

All the while curious, discovering, amazed

Perhaps this is what Jesus meant

To be…born again

To remember our original spirit of place

Not alone but also with our Source of life

To remember our birthdays

We remember our original freedom

To bring our freedom with us and

Wise to see what burdens us and

Choose to be set free ―

And the Presence greets us with a smile

Your gabby grand dad, Charles

Happy Birthday!

I appreciate others comments. I , like Abbey, wonder how people who were not able to (or chose not to) have children found this article.
