Hi Everyone!
Our not-very-seasonal conversation on Christian nationalism with Tim Whitaker wasn’t merry and bright, but it was informative, helpful, and surprisingly hopeful! We got an “insider” view on some of the people you hear about on the news or read on social media. And — the best part — Time kept pressing into the theology of Christian nationalism in ways you never hear in the mainstream media. Frankly, he left me wanting more. His curiosity is contagious.
Almost 250 folks from the Cottage showed up for the live gathering — and the Q&A alone probably could have gone on for an hour (but it didn’t!).
Make sure to check out the New Evangelicals. The website links to their social media channels (under the “Listen” tab). And you can find out more about “Project Amplify” under the “Donate” tab (their non-profit runs on individual small donations). They plan to raise the social media profile of not only their own organization in 2024, but to lift up and amplify the voices of Christians — especially younger adults — who are speaking up and out against authoritarianism and nationalism.
In 2024, more great guests like Tim will come to the Cottage to keep you informed of the theological, spiritual, and leadership challenges in Christian nationalism, breaking political and cultural news, and the specific moral and ethical issues shaping the upcoming elections (and global Christianity as well).
The Cottage continues its mission to strengthen and deepen your faith, enrich your understanding of the stories of scripture, enliven tradition and interfaith connections, and inspire clarity, courage, and compassion in our congregations and political lives.
Expect surprise.
