I made some calls this morning. I am happy to report those I called had "jammed" lines so all I could do is leave a message" Emailed a former Senator from whom I still get messages from and told him my story although I no longer vote in his state , but I do in current! But some in my family without fraud benefited from programs and departments that are now under attack.
How kind and thoughtful of you to be concerned for those of us who are Canadian. It’s pretty tough being maligned by a nation we used to think of as our best friend and best neighbour. We do know that many (most?) of you as individuals do not think or act this way, but the public rhetoric is hard to hear. So, again, thank you for understanding. I have been boycotting trips to the US since his first term, but now most of us are already boycotting food from the US and purchases of any sort, except for links to people like you who warm our heart. We appreciate your empathy.
I'm planning to visit family in the Buffalo area this summer. While I always enjoy visiting Canada, I will make sure to spend time (and money) in Canada as well.
Suzanne I was raised in Toledo Ohio so we could "Pop" over the border for an event or a longer vacation. I love Canada. What this "Admin" has no idea about is that we are in a reciprocal trading arrangement. I had a box of instant oatmeal major brand recently that on the box said Made In Canada! Many of us are concerned and Mexico too. Lived near the border for years, and taught in Texas. My "body Weeps" sometimes and I rejoice for friends like you!
Thank you for this, how I envy you watching the snow fall in that quiet, holy moment. The poem did my heart good. I needed that little bump of peace today.
Thanks for sharing this as the simplest way to contact your Congressional leaders: Congressional switchboard, (202) 224-3121 - then ask for the person you want.
I shared this with my Trinity SB Base Community today - they were thankful!
Listening today to the podcast, "Main Justice," I learned Mary McCord is a main author of the lawsuit filed by the 22 denominations. It's so well written. It's wonderful to know we have a great team of lawyers.
Thank you for continuing to be a stubborn light in an increasingly dark moment. I've been reflecting on what Father Gregory Boyle says about the difference between optimism and hope... “There's a difference between optimism and hope. I think optimism is concerned about how things turn out and hope is not about how things turn out. Hope is about being faithful to loving and that's what you do... Love never fails, never. So you want to be able to stay anchored in joyful hope.” I wrote about it in a recent post: https://atenderspace.substack.com/p/letting-go-of-fantasy-and-leaning
"It is quiet; we are wrapped in silence. It feels like a holy gift." Spring comes long to the mountains at 9000'. This morning when I was out shoveling the snow from the driveway I paused to reflect in the silence of the -10 temps. It was so cold, quiet in a mysterious way. It was like a holy presence in the midst of the pause of my morning snow duties. A peaceful, serene moment that felt so content and filling, like food and water for my soul. I call these moments "the power of the slowing." Sometimes I can create these opportunities, but often they just show up when I least expect them. The power of the slowing bids me often to just slow down, pause, and take in the moment. I'll admit I don't heed them as much as I used to but that doesn't stop the invitation. I liken them to the Creator and his mysterious Spirit and ways, His silent wind which comes and goes. Thank you for reminding me of that moment this morning.

Thank you for continuing to support my work. My friendship with my Canadian readers means a great deal to me.

Thanks for your message, Wendell Berry’s poem and the lawsuit. All of these give me hope.
