Fascinating stuff, we have similar issues in Australia. I think it was not just 9/11, but the global financial crisis, changing mores on LGBT issues, the rise of Trump, declining birth rates, and the digitalisation of economics and leisure that has created a decline in "religion."
The question that was never asked after 9/11 was Why did they do what the did? What was the root reason for this act? Perhaps it requires us (as a nation) to do some serious soul searching and reaching out to find the answers. I personally don't think this has been done nor has the question been answered, which means we are apt to repeat it.
