I wrote a comment but had to stop and listen again. A wonderful and moving sermon. The first time through I heard the falling rocks and the despair of losing what we cling to with such commitment. I felt how the rocks we cling to, of capitalism, democracy, success, modern science and medicine, technology and more are not permanent or infinite and always there for us. "All things must pass away." The second time through I heard the hope of the Age to Come, the birth of a new age yet to be realized, the new life coming from a hard labor, a new incarnation as God continues to create new life. We may be returning to your, and Mark's, words sooner than later. Thank you for sharing this marvelous sermon.
I appreciate deeply your skillful relating scriptural events to our living today . I have attempted similar in my book Miracles Messages and Metaphors. Let me know should you desire a courtesy copy. Your Markan insight is so "on target". Norm Carroll
I have heard some powerful sermons, but this a so right on and power giving to all of our lives in a scary time. Telling it like it is smashing boundaries, telling it like it is out here keeps my courage up and I pray others. Gratitude for this and for you.
What a powerful “shattering”! I am stunned and amazed…and lifted up… I am grateful of your gift of speaking and sharing the hard part of the “good news”.
Shattered, that is how we all feel right now no matter what your political affiliation, if you are awake. Today I heard a lecture on faith, an encounter with love; the movement we must make from individual to collective with US constitution as a matrix; 4way work to move into higher realms; and this. We are all talking the same game. Folks we are changing whether we like it or not and we can go into the unknown with faith or reluctance and fear. Our experience is made by us. Do we talk about the beautiful baby that shattering created or complain about the pain an suffering? Thank you Diana for your eloquence guiding.
Thanks for being with us this weekend at St. Paul's UMC in Houston. It was a wonderful weekend both for weather and progressive theology. Your sermon this morning was profoundly moving. All three of your lecture sessions were outstanding. So glad public, in-person lectures are returning. Zoom and YouTube are great but there is nothing quite like experience of listening and learning in person.

Thomas Merton’s He is Risen taught me that the first ending of Mark is right
Who are you looking for, He is not here He has gone before you to Galilee as he told you
We need to follow Him, not look for Him

Powerful, mountain-breaking, stone-throwing down message of God's breaking into human history
I am completely blown away by your interpretation that Mark's entire gospel if a birth narrative. Brilliant. Thanks Diana.
This reading of Mark reveals this gospel's heart that is instantly recognizable as truth..
