Thank you for calling out Jesus as mean, rude and for calling the Canaanite woman a dog. I appreciated your struggle with this text. I did not know about the two prayers men prayed in the culture at that time — Jews and Greeks and that context was illuminating — as was the new info about Galatians 3 from Patterson. So grateful. All week I struggled with this text and will incorporate these insights next go around. I saw this passage as an example of where God’s mind is changed by us. Jesus changed his mind after the Canaanite woman mirrored to Jesus his true self and that this mirroring of love awakened him. That literally her kingdom living (her correct identification of who he was, from one who was a dog in that culture, melted his preconceived cultural norms). I had angst all week long!!!! Thank you for these awesome insights!
