I wonder about those who seek to renew friendship who are isolated by being immunocompromised...who can’t safely gather in a group physically. Somehow this takes me to the same place we find ourselves when we in healthier times expect seeking people to come to us...to our church building by scheduling activities and gatherings in the church only. How can we provide/create/sustain friendships beyond actual physical gathering for those truly isolated? An ancient concern now with a multitude of electronic pathways to explore.

I live in East Texas, and I practice my faith as a United Methodist. Half of the UM churches in my conference disaffiliated in 2022. In my city of about 100,000 population there are only 2 UM churches left. My husband and I have begun attending one if them, a small church that prepared to be an oasis for grieving UM’s. We have not only been greeted by friendly people, we are being embraced in love and new friendships. After the isolation of COVID,we are hopeful and joyful in our new church, enjoying new friendships and lovingly caring for one another.
