Sunday Musings

Rain in parched places
38

The first week in Wyoming brought a surprise — rain. Like so many other places, this land is suffering under an extended drought. The sound of the rain falling on the parched grounded called to mind this week’s lectionary text from Isaiah.

The above video was taken from my cabin porch at Ring Lake Ranch, outside of Dubois.

May your soul be watered this week. And may we be blessed with rain.

Isaiah 58:9b-11

If you remove the yoke from among you,
the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil,

if you offer your food to the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the afflicted,

then your light shall rise in the darkness
and your gloom be like the noonday.

The Lord will guide you continually,
and satisfy your needs in parched places,
and make your bones strong;

and you shall be like a watered garden,
like a spring of water,
whose waters never fail.

INSPIRATION

The parched know —

real thirst
draws rainwater
from an empty sky.
— Ivan M. Granger

Praise crazy. Praise sad.
Praise the path on which we're led.
Praise the roads on earth and water.
Praise the eater and the eaten.
Praise beginnings; praise the end.
Praise the song and praise the singer.

Praise the rain; it brings more rain.
Praise the rain; it brings more rain.

— Joy Harjo, from “Praise the Rain”
