Thank-you, Diana, for this! Goes goes hand-in-hand with the book I just finished on Medger and Myrlie Evers. Inspired by so much courage displayed. We will need this in the coming days.

Brilliant! I follow you here and in The Convocation. I was moved to tears throughout this post both by Martin's Words and tour choice of music. The images during Eye on the Prize were stunning, leading up to Ruby Bridges standing with Barack Obamain front of the painting of walking to school with FBI agents.

Today marks the best and worst.of the American Story.

Martin Luther King had no doubt about where he stood and what he must do in his time. It can't have been easy for him to stand up courageously in support of the rights of African Americans. Now it behooves us to do the same thing for our time. We must figure out how to resist oligarchy and authoritarianism as they oppress people of all stripes. We must figure out how to resist violent insurrectionists if they are released from prison. We must figure out how to protect the undocumented and their families from persecution and abuse. We must adhere to Lincoln's proposition ". . .with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right . . .". If we can answer all these questions, we will, to paraphrase Faulkner, not only survive, but endure as well.

Thank you for this inspiring message today, Dr Bass Butler. I appreciate you. I will be reading this again tomorrow and remembering those who have modeled a way forward for us.

I heard Lift Every Voice and Sing at two services virtually this morning.

It is the best hymn for today and every day!
