I have long wondered (under the influence of Bonhoeffer's prison letters) if we are not standing on the cusp of something entirely new in Christianity. The new would be constructed on another understanding of what "chosen" means, what authority means, what salvation truly is (and being "personal" is not at the heart of it), and how we have missed much in our appeal to tradition. The obvious failures of Christian faith in the world challenge us now to think about how we are shaped, formed, and live out faith. This piece is a wonderful story of how different a new path might look.

Diana, I have listened to your sermon six times since you released it - and every time I have cried. I grew up in a home and a church that openly valued men and devalued women. My own experiences of childhood sexual assault and adult rape have been minimized, if not completely dismissed. How, oh how!, could I ever turn to the family or church that dismissed my pain for spiritual guidance through my pain?!

When you ask what Christianity might have been if we had not had Mary's confession taken from us, I imagine it would be a place I could bring my pain, a place I could find my healing, a place where the hard won wisdom-of-a-woman that I carry would be welcomed and celebrated!

Mary the Tower!

I madecan appointment and shared your sermon with my spiritual director so we could imagine together a Christianity built on Mary's confession - a Christianity deeply rooted in Mary the Tower!

What a gift you have given me, dear heart! You have given me FREEDOM! You have given me HOPE! You have given me a Christianity to which I dare to BELONG!

You have given me MARY the TOWER!!

How can I thank you?!

May you know - and know deeply and experientially - that you have given me and so, so many others the gift of a Christianity that we can boldly belong to!

My deepest, deepest gratitude!!

Kate Morgan
