Everyone—I just finished a phone call to my Republican Senator to demand he vote no on
The MAGA Murder Budget which is to be voted on very soon. This is the entirely harmful, unAmerican, largest wealth transfer to the rich budget in history. Some people call it OBBB. I am sad to report that someone at his office ACTUALLY PICKED UP. This is bad because it means not enough of us are calling! Please call TODAY. Look for scripts at 5calls.org. It takes less than 5 minutes!
Thank you for your World Refugee Day reflection. Our responsibility to each other as Christians, and human beings, recognizes no borders. Happy to see a growing interfaith response during these dark times.
One day, those preventing immigrants from entering this country and deporting other may have to leave this country. Wouldn’t it be something if they are treated in the same manner that they have treated others today.
And I bought mine at a hippy-dippy store in Houston that sold all kinds of candles, herbs and incense… the pages still retain some of the scent. So for me, good vibes in addition to good poetry.
Unless you are 100% Native American, we are all immigrants. It is difficult for me to stay close to long time friends who have moved far to the right. I have also noticed they have moved away from the faith in which they were raised. I am a genealogist and I encourage these previously close friends to research the history of their families to see that their ancestors were treated the same way they want the immigrants treated today.
I cannot say I “enjoy” reading these words. These words that smart and sting and make me want to close my eyes, turn my head, turn my back and walk quickly away from knowing the truth of it. I want the smiling, happy face of denial for my very own. You’ve made me think - shame on you for contributing to an awakening I did not ask for and did not want. Now it’s too late. I see the ugliness and the wrongness and the complacency for what it is. It is me. It is all of us. I can scream “NO” as hard as I want, but the truth just keeps coming, just keeps smacking me in the face until I open my eyes and see, open my ears and hear. No, I’m not happy right now. And it’s too late to un-read it, to un-see it, to go back to my cave and pretend it isn’t so. Not happy at all.
Our church has worked with Refugee One for decades from all over the world. These families get jobs in the meat packing industry and our hospitals for the most part. Jobs that are difficult to fill. They become the most grateful citizens, and the children are grateful for school. Trump stopped all refugees from entering this country again. And it is the Evangelical “Christian” votes that put him in power both times. I will never understand.
Growing up in southern states, my father volunteered several times to host international visitors through his participation in Rotary International. It was always exciting to be with people from other countries. As an adult, living in New Jersey on corporate moves, I got to meet neighbors and friends from all over the world who taught me so much. I wish we could build a future in which we welcome the stranger, love one another and live in peace.
This week for a gathering of “girlfriends” a small group of us who support each other, I made a list of immigrants who have lived in our home. It was a wonderful, long list. I had forgotten so much that came back to me doing that list. I think each one is now a USA citizen. All have contributed so much to our country and their children are all amazing with advanced degrees in most cases and good jobs. Immigrants are so important in the USA.
If we are truly honest we are all immigrants to North America , invading indigenous lands… plundering , killing and infecting them with the diseases of Europe.. who do we think we are… how blind can we be, and how ignorant of the truth.. wow!
I, too, worry about the loss of safe places…the rejection of those who have no where to live except the deep shadows of this earth.
Today my friend Austin Kocher speculated that we are in the midst of the twilight of asylum. The option for a safe place to flee to is disappearing. He notices because he follows the data…reads the legal opinions…pays attention to culture.

I love Prayers for a Planetary Pilgrim, thank you for the reminder.
For some reason, I always forget to look at that book. But it is a treasure!

Bless you for your candor, and congratulations on your awakening.
If ever there was a call to examine our souls and respond in love, this is it. We are not separate from other people or from our planet.

Yes very similar to hitler days..
This made me recall the times that i used to visit prisoners at the penitentiary in Lompoc CA. Some of them knew what Jesus had said and thanked me.
Very well written ..words I have been thinking for a long time.
Thank you, Diana. ♥️
