Welcome to a Month of Gratitude at The Cottage
The paid community at The Cottage is joining together for a month of gratefulness. You can participate as you choose, in whatever way is helpful to you. You can simply receive the daily emails and follow along as you wish. For the full experience, however, you may want to read Grateful, keep a journal to write in, and have a gratitude jar or box handy to fill with slips of paper.
This is a good season to be renewed with gratefulness. An overview of what’s coming — a map for the month — each week will follow a similar pattern:
Monday, Reading:
At the beginning of each week, I’ll send out an extended selection from Grateful and a schedule if you are reading the entire book. This reading will set the theme for the week’s conversation and reflection.Tuesday, Writing:
On Tuesday, you’ll receive a gratitude prompt related to the week’s theme. You are invited to write a response to the prompt in the comment thread and/or write in your personal journal.Wednesday, Body:
In the middle of each week, I’ll offer suggestions for a gratitude practice that involves movement and our bodies.Thursday, Community:
On November 3, 10, and 17, we’ll have a live ZOOM conversation about the weekly theme and what we are learning. (There’s no ZOOM on American Thanksgiving Day!) If you can’t make the scheduled time, don’t worry. I’ll send out a recording of the conversation to everyone in the group so you can watch as you are able.Friday, Spirit:
Each week wraps up with a gratitude poem and inspirational quotes to feed your spirit, along with an action suggestion to do good!Weekend:
Practice on your own! Read from Grateful. Journal. Go for a gratitude walk. Whatever calls to you.
IN ADDITION:
There will be surprises along the way.
Each week, I’ll do a random drawing to give away two copies of Grateful. If you get an email saying you’ve won, it isn’t a scam!
A quick link: Read this mini essay “What is Gratitude?” in which Professor Robert Emmons explains the two key components of gratitude.
Everything is a gift. The degree to which we are awake to this truth is a measure of our gratefulness, and gratefulness is a measure of our aliveness.
